Education budget cuts due to COVID-19 are estimated to increase the achievement gap in low income communities by 20%, setting teens three years behind in their education.

If we want to ensure our young people have the opportunities they deserve, we must invest in their education today. That’s why we’ve launched an urgent campaign to bring our IGNITE program tuition-free to 200 teens in underserved communities this school year. 

We need your help to make it happen.

What is IGNITE?

Prismatic’s IGNITE program is a national effort to close the opportunity gap by cultivating young leaders in under-resourced communities through education, inspiration and funding.

We know the switch to remote learning is tough for many of our students. That’s why we designed our virtual IGNITE program with diverse opportunities for remote engagement allowing students to participate both on and off screen. 

The result? This summer, our virtual IGNITE cohort saw a 100% retention rate in student attendance from start to finish...without the incentive of grades or extra credit.

It’s clear that young people are hungry for opportunities to make their mark, connect with their peers and plan for their future.

Prismatic’s IGNITE program helps them do just that. 

Where We Shine

 

  • Our innovative virtual curriculum is designed to engage students quickly and effectively. Contrary to other leading summer programs reporting retention as low as 23%, IGNITE’s virtual program saw 100% retention rate in Summer 2020. 

  • We’ve designed our programming and impact model alongside employers across a variety of industries, ensuring that our students build the soft skills employers want to see in the workplace. Examples of workshops include:

    • Understanding Personal Values, Strengths and Mission designed to build confidence and leadership skills.

    • Overcoming Adversity led by startup founders, designed to build resiliency and flexibility.

    • Communicating Your Why led by a marketing professional, designed to build effective communication

  • We maintain a commitment to nurturing a pipeline of diverse leadership. We recruit across industries, race, culture, educational background, generation, gender identity and economic status with a commitment to a minimum of 60% minority representation in our mentor, speaker and instructor base.

  • We have a track-record of investment from high impact leaders across industries. Notable mentors include: 

    • Dorri McWhorter - CEO, YWCA Chicago

    • Meredith Dawson - Screenwriter and Producer, The Mindy Project

    • Shonali Ditz - Founder and Executive Director, Spark Shop

Today’s teenagers are facing unprecedented challenges - from cancelled extracurriculars, social isolation, and in some cases college deferment leading to sweeping reports of teen anxiety and depression.
